The Aare Gorge - refreshing, mystical, precious
The River Aare has carved its way through chalk rocks over a period of thousands of years, thus creating a 1.4 km long gorge that is up to 200 m deep in places. This natural spectacle can be easily explored thanks to a secure footbridge and tunnels. A trip to the gorge offers the most varied of impressions and is especially ideal on sunny or hot summer days as a pleasant way of cooling off, but just as interesting when the weather is uncertain or even raining.
Discover this natural wonder in the Hasli Valley. You can reach the Aare Gorge easily and conveniently on foot or with the Zentralbahnlinie Meiringen - Innertkirchen if you board at Meiringen station. There is ample parking for cars near the western entrance to the gorge.
The Aareschlucht Restaurant and in particular its sheltered terrace with adjoining playground invite you to relax and enjoy some regional delicacies.
