Giessbachbahn – Europe's oldest funicular railroad
Although the railway has undergone some technical modernisation, it still radiates lots of nostalgic charm and romance, just like it did in 1879.
A 360 metre section of funicular railway track climbs up 96 metres, reaching the dreamy Grand Hotel from the hotel's own jetty on Lake Giessbach. The five-minute train journey takes you through woodland, over bridges and alongside waterfalls. Climb on board the oldest funicular railway in Europe and visit the Griessbach Falls and Grand Hotel in the same way as people did over 145 years ago.
