The Niesen - the Swiss pyramid on Lake Thun

The Niesen (2'362 m a.s.l.) is one of the most famous peaks of the Bernese Oberland - not least because of its iconic pyramid shape and the wonderful location high above Lake Thun as well as the longest staircase in the world (11'674 steps!).

The journey by train is convenient. The train station Mülenen is only 200 meters next to the valley station. By train, the journey takes 40 minutes from Bern station and 1.45 hours from Zurich station.

The nostalgic funicular from 1910 takes you in two sections to the top of the Niesen; on the easily accessible path you are on the viewing platform in a few steps.

The 360° panorama is impressive, offering you a view over the Bernese Alps, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, as well as over the Bernese Mittelland all the way to the Jura.

In the Berghaus Niesen Kulm, built in 1856, you can indulge in culinary delights or stay overnight right away and enjoy a sunrise arrangement.

On the summit, an interesting information trail gives you lots of exciting information and pictures about the history of the mountain, railroad and mountain house.

For families and children the "Niesendörfli" (playground) on the summit is the perfect place. While the children can let their imagination run wild while playing in the Dörfli, the parents can enjoy the beautiful view.

The Niesen is also popular as a hiking and sports mountain. Once a year the Niesen Stair Run takes place on the longest staircase in the world. During the season, various hiking trails and runners' paths lead up to the Niesen.

"up to culture" - The Niesen the culture mountain
Since 2006, a varied cultural program has been created every summer. Artists from different cultural branches (music, literature, sports, comedy, etc.) perform on the Niesen.

Meetings and celebrations
With three soundproof and separable rooms, all equipped with modern presentation technology, the Berghaus Niesen Kulm is an ideal conference and seminar venue. The Niesen also offers the perfect setting for private celebrations with a unique backdrop.

"Ufe Niese cho gniesse!"
